Acting Bad, Painting Good
Organized by Art World Magazine Executive Editor: Luan Zhichao、Chen Bingyu
Though there’s few insightful discussions on painting, we tend to pay more attention to individual painters instead. The characteristics of their subject and approaches in creation, and the demonstration of periodical works and thoughts in solo shows, together picture a multi-faceted figure and practice. The idea of this feature is just like the creation of the seven artists included, conceived in self-doubt, self-overturn and self-trial-and-error. After several times of juxtaposition and collage, delete and overlap, quick decision and hesitation, finally comes these individualized interviews. These seven artists are different in any term. Their interviews and works picture the intertwine between painting and a wider culture and visual spectacle, and provide some reflections on several issues. These issues are not responded through metaphysical intellectual terms, but echoes with the artists’ description of their works and thoughts.
